Committee Formed in Support of Destination Resort Ballot Question
Taunton, MA – A coalition of Taunton residents and business owners along with members of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe has formed a campaign committee to support the referendum to approve a proposed destination resort casino in Taunton. The committee, called Together for Taunton, filed the required paperwork in accordance with Massachusetts law late last week.
Together for Taunton's primary goal is to provide residents with all the information they will need about the proposed destination resort in order to make a decision on what is best for Taunton's future. To that end, the committee will host a series of "Community Conversations" across the city to engage with residents and hear about their ideas, concerns and priorities as the City of Taunton and the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe move forward with plans for a destination resort. The committee is expected to announce the schedule of Community Conversations over the coming weeks.
Terry Quinn, Chairman of Together for Taunton, said, "This project has the potential to be a huge positive for the City of Taunton with increased opportunity for jobs and revenue. As a business owner and homeowner in the City, I welcome the chance to be involved with the Together for Taunton Committee. Our role is to reach out to the citizens so everyone can make an educated decision on the vote June 9th."
Together for Taunton will open an office near Taunton Green for Taunton residents and business owners to find out more about the proposed destination resort and share their ideas and priorities with the committee.
A city-wide referendum to approve the proposed Mashpee Wampanoag destination resort is scheduled for Saturday, June 9th.
